A new app icon, an updated screenshot, a small color adjustment: image changes deserve a review too. A text diff can tell you that a binary file changed, but it cannot show you what looks different.

CommitPlus brings visual image comparison into the diff view, so you can inspect the actual before and after while reviewing your repository. It is a small improvement that makes everyday asset changes easier to understand.

Watch the image comparison in action

In this short demo, two versions of the CommitPlus icon share the same preview area. Moving the divider reveals the older image on one side and the updated image on the other.

Drag the divider to reveal the differences between two versions of an image.

Slide between before and after

Overlay Slider places both versions in one preview with a movable divider. Drag it left or right to reveal more of either image. Comparing the same region makes changes to shapes, spacing, colors, and edges easier to spot than switching between separate files.

For an icon update like the one in the video, you can move the divider across a specific detail and see how it changed in place. The Before and After labels identify the two versions.

Prefer to see both images at once?

Use the image comparison button to switch to Side by Side. This view displays the before and after in separate panels, which is useful when you want to compare the overall composition. Switch back to Overlay Slider when you want to inspect a particular area more closely.

Use it during your normal review

  1. Open your repository and go to File Status.
  2. Select a changed image to open its preview in the diff area.
  3. Drag the overlay divider, or use the comparison button to switch views.
  4. Review the visual change before staging or committing the file.

Image comparison is also available when reviewing image changes in History and Stashes. For a newly added image, there is no earlier version to compare, so CommitPlus shows the image itself.

Whether you are updating a logo, refreshing a screenshot, or adjusting a UI asset, seeing the actual change helps you decide what belongs in the next commit.

Download CommitPlus and try it with an image change in your own repository.
